Weekly Challenge #155

Happy Monday everyone!
First of all, as always - a few house keeping items:
  • If you're NEW here I've created a few tutorials to help you out. You can click on the links above or:   See "Getting Started" and "Tutorials"
  • To see all the past weekly challenges - click the tabs above (they are updated sporadically, please bear with me)
  • Please grab the button for the Weekly Challenge (on the right sidebar) to display on your blogs! share the fun!
  • The limit of submissions to the slideshow is TWO, but please feel free to post as many as you like to your blogs. A note about entering your images for the slideshows: Those of you without blogs or image sharing sites like flickr or picasa, please continue to email your images to weeklychallenge at mail dot com (not gmail, just mail). Everyone else - Please PLEASE PLEASE submit your SITE SPECIFIC URL in the linkey machine. I understand if sometimes you forget, that's fine. Compiling the slideshows is a lot of work, so any help in this regard is appreciated. Also, please do not use the Weekly Challenge as a way to drive traffic to your website if you are not participating. not cool.
  • i have set up a newsletter, sorta. You can subscribe to it HERE or in the Subscribe tab above! Now, the idea for this newsletter is NOT to send one each Monday before the challenges. That is too much work.  But i thought it might try to write a newsletter once a month-ish... Frankly, people kept asking me if i had a newsletter, so i thought i'd give it a try.
  • I know that some of you have told me that the paypal button does not work, and some of you have had no trouble, i'm not sure why it's inconsistent, I've just redone the code...again.... If all else fails you can donate to my paypal address which is madam_diva (a t) yahoo (d o t) com
Hello my Tangly friends!!
I hope you all had a happy Valentine's day and a great weekend! We had a great long weekend at Casa Diva.

I received this lovely card from Chewie for Valentine's Day - he drew him and I playing Wii together, and isn't it the sweetest ever?
Little Artist!
These lovelies came from my amazing hubby.  So pretty.
Valentine's Flowers from B-rad
aaaaaannnnnd -  I was lucky enough to eat this delicious cake when i went out with my friend for coffee.

mmm cake
Yesterday was Family Day in Saskatchewan and we were even fortunate to spend some time out of doors!! the weather cooperated and everything.  So Chewie and B-rad built a fort in the snow pile in the front yard

SNOW!!
And Artoo had lots of fun out in the snow as well.  It's really hard for him to steady himself, his mobility is still kinda wonky, so it was nice for us all to get out together.

Don't you just love this face??
Then we all played a game of Trouble together - i got my butt kicked.  Twice.

Pop-o-matic Bubble!
Weekly Challenge #155: "A Little White Space"
This challenge came about from a conversation with my friend Tara, who i recently taught Zentangle to, when she mentioned that she had a tendency to fill her tiles up - all the way to the brim - and that leaving white space is a challenge.  Well, lucky for her - i happen to have the remedy for that.

This isn't the first white space challenge i've done, but it's been a long while - so it's time to try it again. Some of you have no problems leaving the white space, but for other's it's tricky.

Try leaving a big open white space in your piece this week!
Good luck and happy tangling!
If you have a blog, add the site-specific URL where your tile is posted to the linkey machine below! Don't forget to link back here so that others can join in the fun! (if you don't know how to find this, you can see my half assed tutorial here) Also, please feel free to come back often and visit the links of those people on the linkey machine - don't forget to leave a comment or feedback, everyone loves feedback. ;)
If you don't have a blog but still want to participate, you can email your tile to me and i will put it in the slideshow. (send submissions to: weeklychallenge at mail.com[not gmail, just mail]. I just ask that you put in the subject line: Challenge # ________
The deadline for each weekly challenge is Saturday night so that i can round everyone up by Sunday. What this means is that i will stop adding tiles to the slideshow on Sunday. You're still more than welcome to do the challenges and add your name to the linkey machine. - although to be honest the deadline is pretty forgiving.
I will be more diligent with the linkey machine - by editing out the ones that don't work, the doubles, the links that lead to nowhere, the links that go just to blog home pages (this is why we need those site specific urls), and the spam. And there is some spam. PLEASE do not put your *home* page in the linkey machine... please? for me??

  7. Great dare. I think that the difficulty with white space is common. I tend to do it more effortlessly with zendala templates. Was a little bit of a challenge to plan white space with the string. Have to admit that I was a little influenced by your tile.

  9. Love. This. Challenge.

I can't thank you enough for hosting it. I went out on a limb to try something I hadn't done before, among people I don't know, and even exposed my artistic vulnerability a bit, and it was AWESOME!

Wow! I wonder what next week will be like! I can hardly wait!!

  11. Dear Laura

I’m a new tangler and as a beginner I tend to fill too much in my tangles. So it was a great chance to change this. Thank you so much for your nice blog.
I’m living in Switzerland and I don’t know tanglers here. There aren’t many in the German speaking part of Europe, I think.
But I’m enjoying both the English language and the drawing.

    Have a good time

    Claudia

  12. This is a very hard for me to do I find it extremely difficult to leave what I call negative space. But as I was doing Bright owls challenge I finished the outside and couldn't find a pattern I liked for the inside so again I combined the two. Hope that's ok.

  13. Laura, thanks for the challenge. I like to consider the empty space "positive space". For me, as I said in my blog post, space is necessary for us to be able to listen to one another, and provides much needed breathing room. Take care and stay warm.

  14. This will be my first challenge here! I'm trying to create daily or at least several times a week. Do I need a blog or can I just link to my G+ or facebook?

    1. Hi Kelly,
as long as your link takes people DIRECTLY to the image, you can post it wherever you like!! :D
      Welcome aboard!

  15. Thanks for a great challenge yet again, Laura. While I leave open/white spaces fairly regularly, I discovered that they usually just happened. And when I tried to do it on purpose, it didn't happen so easily. I had to rely on a string that suggested open space. But once I got that straightened out, it was a piece of cake.

Looks like you all have been having fun in the snow, but I know that can get old pretty fast. I hope your winter lightens up soon. (Unless you like it that way.)
